Barefoot Landing and Myrtlewood Villas
Myrtlewood Villas is a complex of condos that has it all from 1, 2 and 3 Bedroom condos with the finest features including: full kitchens, spacious living rooms, washer and dryer in each villa. Their amenities are second to none that feature an indoor pool and fitness complex including Pool, Lazy River, Jacuzzi, Kiddie Pool with Splash Umbrella, and complete Fitness Center. In 2012, group pavilions have been added next to this facility with grilling areas, perfect for family gatherings and cookouts. This amenities center also provides Free Wi-Fi access to our Guests.
About a 20 minute drive from Myrtewood Villas, guests of the resort can enjoy the expansive entertainment, dining and shopping complex known as Barefoot Landing.
Barefoot Landing has a beautiful 27-acre lake as its centerpiece. The lake bisects the complex featuring about 100 shops, theaters and attractions.
Kim Kelley, marketing director at Barefoot Landing, said the natural environment and the unique attractions make it a favorite destination of locals and tourists.
“People visiting Barefoot Landing enjoy our various attractions,” Kelley said. “They like to go see the shows, and we also have neat little boutiques that people come back to year after year.”
A popular shop at Barefoot Landing is PURPLEologist. The catchall store only sells items that are the color purple. Whatever you can think of that is wearable or usable PURPLEologist probably has it.
“People just love it,” Kelley said.
Dick’s Last Resort (food served up in buckets by hilarious staff), D&D Outfitters (apparel and accessories for the cowboy or cowgirl in you) and Johnny Rockets (a 50s’ style dinner with music played and danced to from the 50s to the 90s) are among other hot spots.
The most beloved attractions at Barefoot Landing include Alligator Adventure (where America’s largest crocodile in captivity, Utan, lives), The House of Blues, T.I.G.E.R.S/Preservation Station and Alabama Theatre.
One of the most fun aspects of Barefoot Landing is its Summer Fest. During Summer Fest, Barefoot Landing hosts a series of family-friendly events. For example, at 10:15 p.m. every Monday, there is a fireworks show.
Other summer activities include festival-like amusement with clowns, kid’s karaoke, face painting and a parade featuring llamas or miniature ponies and a small marching band. The fun gets underway every Wednesday at 7 p.m.
One of the featured entertainers during Summer Fest is Nick Pike. Pike, who was on Season 5 of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” is a juggler, comedian and unicyclist.
During Summer Fest, “we do real camel rides as well,” Kelley said.
Visitors to Barefoot Landing, however, can be entertained year-around, not just during the summer.
The Flying Fish Public Market & Grill, for instance, not only serves up fresh seafood and delicious sushi but also lets guests “toss a fish” as a part of their dining experience. Upon request, a guest, donning latex gloves, can ask a staff member to “toss” a fish from the display case, which he or she tosses back. Thus far, nobody has reportedly dropped a fish.
Make sure if you are a guest at the Myrtlewood Resort that you plan an afternoon or evening outing to Barefoot Landing, your friends and family won’t be disappointed.
