The Market Common: An upscale, shopping and dining experience!

The Market Common in Myrtle Beach, SC

There’s plenty of great shopping in Myrtle Beach, including the longtime favorite Tanger Outlets on the North end and in Carolina Forest on Hwy. 501. Coastal Grand Mall also offers a great place for shopaholics to practice their art. But - there’s only one shopping area in Myrtle Beach that has the distinctive urban village feeling that’s been captured at The Market Common.

Since it opened in 2008, The Market Common has become a favorite for both locals and for visitors to the area. You can catch a new release at a 14-screen Cineplex, shop for books, or just grab a cup of Starbucks at Barnes & Noble, and then get down to shopping.

The Market Common is home to several high-end retailers, including the women’s brands Chico’s and Anthropologie and outdoor outfitter Orvis, which dresses men and women and sells lifestyle gear from dog beds to fly fishing gear. And, if you’re in the market for home décor, you’re in luck, as The Market Common boasts high-end favorites like Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. And, if you’re looking for something artistically unique, you can check out Seacoast Artists Gallery, which carries original works by visual artists from around the Grand Strand.

If you’re looking for a place to eat, The Market Common serves up plenty of options. You can enjoy quirky takes on Mexican fare at Nacho Hippo, including the Kamikaze with seared tuna and wasabi jalapeno mayo and the Rock Lobsta with crispy tempura lobster and honey mustard sauce. Another favorite is P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, which serves up flavorful and fresh takes on Chinese favorites—we love the lettuce wraps. P.F. Changs is also a popular choice for gluten-free eaters, as it offers an extensive gluten-free menu. The restaurant choices go on, and when you’re ready for dessert, you’ve also got options. Canipes Chocolates and Candies is always a go-to, but sometimes it’s just got to be ice cream, and that’s when we hit Cold Stone Creamery for a custom-blended ice cream concoction.

Another beauty of The Market Common in Myrtle Beach is all the great outdoor areas that surround the central shopping and residential area. Valor Park and Grand Park are both a stone’s throw away, and are great places for a picnic, a walk or some playtime.

And we forgot to mention one more of our favorite attractions at The Market Common: Many locals say the Piggly Wiggly at the shopping center is one of the best grocery stores in town. Check it out for your picnic goodies, the best selection of micro-brewed beer at the beach, and if you’re staying in a suite at Monterey Bay with a kitchen, pick up groceries for a night in to save a little bit of money on dinners out. Think of it this way: You might end up with more shopping money!

On top of the shopping and dining, The Market Common also plays host to quite a few festivals and events throughout the year. From May through October, Deville Street turns into a farmers market full of fresh produce, seafood and hand crafted trinkets. Beginning in June, the Market Common also holds their Movies Under The Stars. Admission is free so bring a few blankets and the whole family to watch a great movie on a huge screen in Valor Park. The area also plays holds popular seasonal festivals like St. Patrick’s Day and Oktoberfest with a variety of vendors and entertainment. There’s always something going down at The Market Common so be sure to ask the front desk about the latest events.

Located about 10 miles from Monterey Bay Suites, Market Common is the perfect place to enjoy a day of dining, entertainment, and – of course – shopping. Be sure a trip to this unique outdoor venue is on your Myrtle Beach bucket list!
