5 Must Have Items For A Family Vacation
Electronics & Chargers
When packing for family vacation it’s easy to get excited and forget some everyday items that you’ll want while you’re away. Things like cameras, tablets and laptops sometimes get left behind in the hustle and bustle of packing suitcases. Many of your portable devices now have apps or can visit sites like Netflix or Hulu so you can still catch your favorite shows while your relaxing in your room. It can also be a great way to keep kids entertained if you just want a few minutes to relax and enjoy the view.
Don’t forget your chargers either! Chargers almost as important as the device itself. While chargers are easier to replace than the device, it’s a hassle to do that while on vacation.
Extra Car Keys & Cash
Two of the worst things to lose on vacation are your car keys and your wallet. Be sure you have an extra set of car keys and some cash packed away somewhere. Leaving your car keys or wallet on a blanket or unsecured pocket and losing them in the ocean or on the sand can ruin a vacation day in a hurry. While beach chairs and bathing suits have pockets for these things, they aren’t always reliable. Many people bring sealable plastic baggies for their phone, wallet and other valuables to keep them free from sand and water as well as keeping them in an easily findable place. If you happen to lose your keys or wallet, please report it to the front desk in case someone returns them.
Sunscreen & Bug Spray
Families on vacation tend to spend a majority of their day outdoors and the sun can either make a day great, or painful. Don’t let sunburn get in the way of a great vacation. Be sure to apply sunscreen to yourself and you family regularly throughout the day and after each time in the water. Your lips can get sunburn too so don’t forget the SPF lip-balm.
It’s also a good idea to bring some bug-spray as well. Some attractions in Myrtle Beach are near wetlands that are home to mosquitos and other pests, so if your family plans on going out on any adventures, be sure to keep them away with bug spray.
Comfortable Shoes & Sandals
When you’re thinking about your family vacation in Myrtle Beach, you’re probably thinking of relaxing on a beach chair, but that’s only part of your day. Most families do a lot of activities that keep them walking around. Visiting Broadway at the Beach, playing mini-golf or walking the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk are all common attractions that will keep you on your feet all day. Trying to break in a new pair of kicks on vacation can be disastrous. Blisters and the beach don’t mix. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes or flip flops that you know you can wear all day when you’re venturing out around town.
Glasses, Contacts and Sunglasses
It is recommended that anyone in your family who wears glasses and/or contacts bring an extra pair on vacation. Broken eyeglasses or contacts are a huge hassle and no one wants to deal with that while enjoying a family vacation. Losing glasses in the sand or ocean is somewhat common so be mindful while you’re here but still be sure to come prepared.
Sunglasses are another commonly lost item while swimming in the ocean. On a sunny Myrtle Beach day, it’s easy to forget you’re wearing your sunglasses or have left them on your head. If your glasses fall off, they will be hard to find if they’re buried by sand or worse, stepped on. Bring an extra pair just in case.
